Did you know that the internet you use also travels beneath the sea? Apparently, we can use the Internet because of the role of the sea as a ‘place’ to store Internet cables. Not many people know that the backbone of global communication lies deep under the ocean. Submarine communication cables carry 95% of international data traffic. So, how does the Internet travel to our location under the sea? Here’s the explanation:

Submarine Cable
Fiber optic cables are installed on the ocean floor to connect countries or continents. These cables enable long-distance data transmission at very high speeds. Submarine cables span thousands of kilometers, connecting vital landing stations that serve as gateways to global communication.

Cable Landing Station
Submarine cables connect to cable landing stations located on land, which are generally found near the coast. At these stations, signals from the submarine cables are received and then routed to land-based networks, such as fiber optics or other communication networks, before being delivered to Internet service providers.

As a digital infrastructure company in Indonesia, Biznet owns and operates Biznet Cable Landing Stations, also known as Biznet MarinePOP. These critical hubs connect Indonesia’s islands and global networks with high speed fiber optic connections. This enables the delivery of high capacity internet services. Biznet currently operates four MarinePOP locations:
1. Biznet MarinePOP Serang Anyar
2. Biznet MarinePOP Bangka Barat Muntok
3. Biznet MarinePOP Lampung Selatan Kalianda
4. Biznet MarinePOP Banyuasin Sungsang

Internet is One the Way to Your Location
Once the data reaches the Internet Service Provider (ISP), it is then sent through the ISP’s network to your location using various methods such as fiber optics, including Fiber To The Home (FTTH), Coaxial Cable, Digital Subscriber Line (DSL), and wireless connections, where the ISP sends signal transmissions via antennas.

With a strong vision to bridge Indonesia’s digital gap and address the country’s growing demand for larger bandwidth, Biznet continues to develop submarine cables and expand its Cable Landing Stations. This ensures that a faster, more reliable, and affordable internet with expansive bandwidth reaches communities across the nation, delivering the same exceptional quality of connectivity available in Java to regions across Indonesia.
